The live-action adaptation of the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender was released on Netflix last month and now, it has been confirmed that the series has been renewed for a second and third season despite mixed reviews from critics and fans. This news has created a rift among the fans as they debate on social media over the show’s future.

This news has led to several debates on social media over the series’ future. Many lost hope when the original series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko quit as executive producers and showrunners in 2020. However, the new showrunner Albert Kim assured fans that the show won’t be a let-down but unfortunately, some reviews state otherwise. The show’s 8-episode structure has been mainly criticized as the show feels rushed.

It is official: Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender will return for seasons 2 & 3. Although it was bound to happen, some fans are not happy with the decision. Many agree that the show’s 8-episode structure is ruining the storyline as the creators are rushing to the final battle. This announcement ignited several debates among fans on social media.

With no involvement from the original series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Albert Kim has been working hard to provide the fans with an entertaining live-action adaptation of the original animated series of the same name, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated television series of all time.

One of the main things that were changed in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender was the portrayal of Fire Lord Ozai. Unlike the original series, Fire Lord Ozai has more involvement in the storyline. Played by Daniel Dae Kim, the actor has stated that he supports the necessary changes in a recent interview with GQ.

While many argue that the show strayed away from the source material, an easter egg in the series proves that the creators were dedicated to the source material. James Sie, who voiced the Cabbage Merchant on Nickelodeon’s animated series, also stars in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This addition proves that the creators actually focused on the small details. Certainly, there were some issues in the first season but hopefully, they will be sorted in future seasons.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
