Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan opens up about a steamy scene between Penelope and Colin in season 3, teasing what to expect between the pair.
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has opened up about the steamy scenes between Penelope (Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), teasing what the pair are going to get up to during season 3. Each season of the historical fiction drama has a core focus on a particular Bridgerton sibling and their relationship with another character. Season 3 will be focusing on Penelope and Colin, which, in turn, means the couple will have plenty of romantic moments.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Coughlan revealed some of Penelope and Colin’s moments in Bridgerton season 3 will be steamy and intimate. The actor revealed the two broke some furniture on set during one of these scenes, which she said allowed the two creative freedom to have the scene play out the way they envisioned. Check out what Coughlan had to say below:
We did break a piece of furniture while doing one of those scenes. I didn’t know what it was gonna be like, but it’s a little bit like a stunt in which they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna do this, this, and this. But then they gave us freedom to like, we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do. And that makes you feel quite empowered and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re gonna do this, this, and this.’ So we felt super. They were actually really enjoyable. I didn’t think they would be. They were great. It was fun.
How Will Penelope & Colin’s Relationship Evolve In Bridgeton Season 3?
Penelope has had a crush on Colin since season 1, always attempting to be with him even when he was briefly engaged to Marina. Bridgerton season 2 ended with him telling other people he would never court Penelope, making her sad and angry. This is coupled with Eloise discovering she is the scandal-spearing Lady Whisledown, ending their friendship in the process. This leaves season 3’s main heroine in a negative position at the start, especially as she continues to write under her assumed persona.
Given how big a focus she is going to be in season 3, the Featherington daughter’s character is likely to go through the largest arc in the upcoming episodes. Since she’s now angry at Colin for damaging her sense of self-worth, it will take a lot of healing before their relationship can get to a point where they fall in love. However, given Coughlin’s description of what to expect, her character isn’t going to be mad at the noble for the entire season.
Bridgerton season 3 will be different because the new relationship it will be focusing on as well as how important Penelope’s role as Lady Whistledown is to the overarching plot of the series. It’s possible her pen name will become a major source of contention as the season progresses, with her alter ego’s role finally coming to a head. With plenty of twists and turns likely to continue happening as the series progresses, it remains to be seen what the core couple will go through in their newfound love.
Bridgerton season 3 part 1 arrives on Netflix on May 16, 2024. Part 2 drops on June 13, 2024.
