The Game of Thrones spinoffs kicked off with 2022’s House of the Dragon. The series managed to bring back GOT fans after the underwhelming reception to the final season of the mothership series. Following House of the Dragon, other spinoffs have been announced and are in various stages of production.

After the success of House of the Dragon, HBO is further leveraging the Game of Thrones franchise and making other spinoff shows. One that was announced was Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, a show that will be based on George R.R Martin‘s Tales of Dunk and Egg books, featuring Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.

According to Variety, Peter Claffey & Dexter Sol Ansell are set to play the mentioned characters respectively in the show set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Fans took to X to celebrate their excitement about the series and the unique perspective it will bring to the franchise. They also praised the unique casting choices and are expecting great things from them. Here are some of the reactions.

While the casting news is exciting, one must keep in mind that Martin has developed only three novellas based on the two characters The Hedge KnightThe Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight, and has plans for more. He told Deadline that if The Hedge Knight series is successful, other stories will also be adapted.

If they plan to do multiple seasons of the show, it might repeat the mistakes of Game of Thrones, where they ran out of ideas as Martin did not finish the whole story. Fans hope that the makers do not have to improvise like that and take their time for Martin to finish the stories and for their show too.

David Zaslav Confirms Late 2025 Max Release for The Hedge Knight Series

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will be the next Game of Throes spinoff series after House of the Dragon The Hedge Knight series will be the next Game of Thrones spinoff series after House of the Dragon

The upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff series, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, is currently in pre-production. The lead actors have been cast and filming is expected to start soon. Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed recently that the series will premiere on Max in late 2025.

He further stated that George R.R. Martin is hard at work on developing the series (which he’s executive producing). Zaslav said (via The Hollywood Reporter),

“George R.R. Martin is in preproduction for the new spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere in late 2025 on Max.”

The official synopsis of the show reads as follows,

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

In addition to this series, HBO is further developing another spin-off series centered on Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. The second season of House of the Dragon is set to premiere on Max this June. It sure seems like Game of Thrones fans are in for a treat in the coming years.
