Fans were happy about Game of Thrones creators being sad about Lucasfilm rejecting their Star Wars film.
Game of Thrones undeniably holds a prominent place in television history, leaving a lasting impact across various mediums. Over four years after its conclusion, the series continues to be a major topic of discussion but not always for the best reasons because of how it ended. Interestingly enough, the series’ creators mourning Lucasfilm rejecting their Star Wars movie got a ton of relations from fans on Twitter.
Game of Thrones succeeded by crafting a captivating storyline and exceptional world-building, providing fans with over eight years of incredible hype and anxiety. Unfortunately, the series concluded with Season 8’s final episode, widely considered one of the worst show endings ever, effectively destroying the series’ once-thriving hype.
Game of Thrones Creators Ended Up Rushing The Series And Cut Down The Total Number Of Seasons
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were initially seen as one of the best showrunners ever but now they are mostly ridiculed due to how badly Game of Thrones ended with Season 8.
The quest for a Game of Thrones spinoff began in 2016 following the decision by Benioff and Weiss to conclude the series after its sixth season, aiming to conclude it before it peaked. Despite HBO’s push for more seasons, the showrunners stuck to eight.
While speaking to The Wall Street Journal, George R.R. Martin noted that he fought against David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and wished for the show to run at least 10 seasons. Unfortunately, he just couldn’t get through to them in the end.
“I was saying it needs to be 10 seasons at least and maybe 12, 13. I lost that one.”
Game of Thrones will forever be remembered as one of the biggest letdowns in the history of television and no one can really fix that issue, even if some fans wish David Benioff and D.B. Weiss remake the last few seasons.
Game of Thrones Creators Being Sad About Lucasfilm Rejecting Their Star Wars Movie Got A Lot Of Wild Reactions From Fans
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Game of Thrones David Benioff and D.B. Weiss talked about their cancelled Star Wars film. Benioff and Weiss expressed their original intention to explore The First Jedi, delving into the origins of the Jedi Order.
”We wanted to do The First Jedi. Basically how the Jedi Order came to be, why it came to be, the first lightsaber …”
When Lucasfilm opted not to pursue the First Jedi story, Benioff acknowledged their understanding of the decision, mentioning that Lucasfilm had different plans for their intellectual property.
“[Lucasfilm] ended up not wanting to do a First Jedi story. We had a very specific story idea in mind, and ultimately they decided they didn’t want to do that. And we totally get it. It’s their company and their IP, but we weren’t the droids they were looking for.”
To the surprise of absolutely no one, fans took to Twitter and commented on a post about the aforementioned interview about David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and made fun of them for good reason. Nonetheless, both of them will forever remain in infamy and lots of ridicule and they only have themselves to blame for this.
