Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones is one of the most despicable characters.
The Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the most successful television shows in history, which spawned a whole franchise that continues to remain popular among audiences worldwide. Its incredible success is all thanks to its intriguing plotline, stunning visuals, and cinematography.
But its cast performances were one of the major reasons why it garnered worldwide acclaim as we witnessed complex characters that kept us invested in its storyline. However, the show also introduced some of the most disturbing characters ever seen on TV. When we talk about the most sinister character, one would point fingers at The Night King. But there’s another despicable character whose acts would sicken your stomach and it’s none other than Ramsay Bolton.
Ramsay Bolton is the Most Vile Character in Game of Thrones
When it comes to pointing out the most sinister character in the Game of Thrones series, it would surely be Ramsay Bolton (via CNet). While the show introduced many complex characters to the violent world, he is straight on evil.
What makes him a gruesome villain is the fact that he enjoys inflicting pain on others, which is showcased prominently in the series. He demonstrates no empathy or remorse about committing heinous crimes, making his character gritty.
He quickly garnered fans’ hate after he brutally tortured and mutilated Theon Greyjoy, leaving everyone in disgust. While one would think that this would be his most evil deed, his physical abuse of his partner, Sansa Stark, and flaying his enemies alive among other cruel acts would increase tabs of what else he’s capable of.
Played by Iwan Rheon, he is undoubtedly one of the most despising characters who knows no bounds when it comes to his amusement, and who delights in breaking the spirits of those who encounter him.
Iwan Rheon Shared Game of Thrones’ Ramsay Bolton Role Left a Grave Impact on His Career
Rheon, who portrayed the role in the HBO adaptation of George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, once talked about his role’s impact on his professional career. While his marvelous acting surely cemented him as one of the most vile characters in TV history, it somehow limited his range.
In an interview with Radio Times, he explained,
“There’s no other way of looking at it. Because of the magnitude of the show, it did loads for my career. But it brought a lot of barriers as well. All of a sudden you’re just getting offered lots of parts where they want you to do the same thing.”
Getting typecast is not a nice thing for someone’s acting career as it restricts the range that an actor can cover in the industry. He added,
“I was like: ‘Can I play a nice guy, please?’”
While he was typecast in several projects, he eventually broke the circle with his performances like The Dirt project. Although Rheon’s role was indeed the worst, the Night King is no better as he is a threat to all of humanity.
Commanding an army of the undead, including White Walkers and wights, he wanted to eradicate all life to push the world into eternal darkness. Just like Bolton, Night King showed no remorse, even targeting babies, making him a terrifying entity in the ultra-violent world.
The Game of Thrones is available on HBO Max.
