It is safe to anticipate that in the next episodes of the show, Blackthorne and Mariko’s relationship will develop further.
The foundation for their future romance was deftly laid in episode 3, ‘Tomorrow is Tomorrow,’ as both characters confided in each other about their respective struggles.
While Blackthrone’s admission that he left his family behind to embark on adventures throughout the world surprised Mariko, the weight of her miserable marriage to Toda Buntaro (Shinnosuke Abe) was also examined.
Furthermore, Buntaro’s valiant demise suggests a possible romantic relationship between the two.
Although it’s unclear at this point if their friendship will develop into a committed partnership, their romance will still be clouded by Japan’s social norms, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for this dynamic duo.
