George R.R. Martin teased fans with upcoming Game of Thrones animated series.
Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin will be expanding the Westeros universe after revealing three new animated projects are currently brewing at the headquarters. The famed writer published the report on his blog after raving about Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai.
With the success of the live-action HBO series House of the Dragon, fans can expect that there is more to explore given how vast the franchise’s lore is. At the moment, these upcoming projects are not yet confirmed, but Martin assured that there is progress.

George R.R. Martin Teases Fans With New Game Of Thrones Projects
George R.R. Martin wrote on his website last Sunday an update about his planned Game of Thrones animated series under HBO. The author stated:
“As it happens, HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.”
Unfortunately, not all pitches were approved as two of the original projects were dropped. Nonetheless, some were under consideration. He continued:
“When this last round of development started a few years back, we had four ideas for animated shows, with some great talents attached. Writers rooms and summits, outline and scripts followed in due course… but, alas, two of the original projects were subsequently shelved.”
The House of the Dragon prequel, Nine Voyages, was moved from a live-action project to an animated series to fit the studio’s budget. It will follow Corlys Velaryon in his epic journey across Essos.
“Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live-action version prohibitively expensive, what with half the show taking place at sea, and the necessity of creating a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well, on and on and on. There’s a whole world out there. And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway.”
Martin believed this is the wisest decision to effectively and efficiently tell the Sea Snake’s story. Still, nothing is certain in the industry, but he hopes that these plans will become reality. He also remarked that they will try to make these animated series as beautiful as Blue Eye Samurai.
Game Of Thrones Fans Want A Remake Of Season 8

they need to animate the last live-action season so people who didn’t/refuse to watch it (me) can finally watch it as it was intended.
