Netflix offers a closer look at the upcoming Bridgerton season 3, which will explore the romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
A new glimpse at Bridgerton season 3 has arrived. Netflix’s Regency era romance show spends each season following the romantic travails of one member of the expansive Bridgerton family. After season 1 saw Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) fall for the rakish Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and season 2 followed a love triangle between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and the Sharma sisters Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina (Charithra Chandran), season 3 will follow the romance developing between longtime friends Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who was recently revealed to be the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.
Netflix has now shared two new clips from Bridgerton season 3 as part of a compilation video celebrating what’s next for the streamer in 2024. Check out the longer clip below:
The footage reveals a scene where Penelope compliments Colin’s eyes, calling them “the most remarkable shade of blue” before awkwardly pulling back from her flirtatious comment. The full Netflix Next video also features a shorter clip during a montage at the beginning, revealing a brief moment where Colin approaches Penelope, who appears to have been recently crying. Check that out below:
How Colin and Penelope’s Bridgerton Romance Will Be Different
The first clip hints that season 3 will provide a return to the swooning romance that the Bridgerton show promises. However, the depth of feeling in the new season could perhaps be even more profound, considering the fact that, for the first time, both romantic leads have had storylines in previous seasons, making them much more familiar to audiences. Those past storylines have also set up the bombshell of Lady Whistledown’s true identity, which is poised to provide a huge explosion that could damage their burgeoning love.
Lady Whistledown, as voiced by Julie Andrews, is the narrator of Bridgerton .
The second clip emphasizes how Colin’s love story will play out much differently than the other romances of the Bridgerton family so far. Because of their dynamic shifting more firmly from friendship to love, the couple is experimenting somewhat with what it might be like to be open with their romantic interest in one another. The delicate balance of their dynamic is going to be upset, which accounts for their courtship being much more awkward than in the previous two seasons.
There is another offscreen element that will make this season of Bridgerton feel quite different. As this season is based on the fourth Julia Quinn novel in the book series of the same name, it marks the first time that the show has diverged from the timeline of the source material. Skipping over the third book, which follows Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), means that the show may diverge from the books in even more profound and unexpected ways going forward.
