Outlander’s Future Secured: Time-Travelling Drama Finds New Home on Streaming Service

Streaming service Lionsgate Plus UK shut on February 29 with customers no longer able to access content directly from the app or its website.

Outlander fans will be relieved following the news that the time-travelling drama has found a new home in the UK.

The beloved show which follows the gripping love story of Jamie and Claire Fraser is set to launch part two of the seventh season on new streaming service MGM+.

The Starz-produced show had previously been broadcast on Lionsgate+ which aired episodes of the hugely popular show one day after they were shown in the US with previous series also available on the site, reports the Express.

However, on February 29, the company ceased its UK operation leaving fans of the show with no legal way to get their fix, with many left uncertain how they’d access the new upcoming episodes.

Now, MGM+ have come to the rescue after they struck up a deal that will deliver premium Liongate and Stars programming to UK-based fans.

Lionsgate+ subscribers who joined via Prime Video Channels in the UK will get access to the MGM service beginning in April.

Later in May, the service will be rebranded to MGM+ to align with the recent rebrand in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.

The channel is available in 31 countries globally and is one of the most subscribed Prime Video Channels.

As well as the complete Outlander franchise, it will also become the UK home to popular shows including the Power Book series, The Serpent Queen, P-Valley and Hightown and legacy series such as The Great, Mad Men, Nashville and Weeds.

Speaking about the deal Josh McIvor, global general manager of MGM+ said: “The expansion of MGM+ in the United Kingdom further cements Amazon’s commitment to invest in and grow the MGM+ channel internationally, while enhancing the content offering available to subscribers.”

“The addition of premium first-run TV franchises such as Outlander and Power, along with many blockbuster hit movies, will allow MGM+ to continue its evolution as a premium international streaming service,” Michael Katzer, head of MGM+ International added.

The news will come as a relief to fans of the show as the next instalment is due to launch very shortly.

Although no release date is confirmed it is widely believed that the next part of the show will begin to broadcast this month.

Season seven, part two of Outlander will draw from Diana Gabaldon’s seventh and eighth books, An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Blood.

The regular cast members are set to return, along with some new additions. In the upcoming episodes, a familiar character from Outlander’s third season will reappear, but this time portrayed by a different actor.

Originally played by Laura Donnelly, the role of Jamie’s sister, Jenny Murray, will now be portrayed by Kristin Atherton. She is recognised for her work in Waterloo Road and Doctors.

After seven whirlwind seasons of romance, war and time travel, Outlander will end after its eighth instalment, which began filming late last year.

Much to fans’ devastation, the conclusion was confirmed in January 2023 alongside the announcement of an upcoming prequel, Blood of My Blood.
