House of the Dragon Season 2 is preparing to premier in June 2024
HBO’s House of the Dragon is one of the most celebrated American fantasy dramas in recent times. Those fans who are eagerly awaiting the second season of the series can finally rejoice, as it may be close at hand.
Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, Season 1 of the series received an extremely overwhelming response when it first hit the screens in 2022. In fact, it turned out to fetch record-breaking ratings for HBO.
Ever since, the show has amassed a huge fan following and a host of fan clubs. Interestingly, Season 2 was announced just a week after the premiere of Season 1.
When is House of the Dragon Season 2 releasing
It was earlier reported that the second season of House of the Dragon was on the cards for a Summer 2024 premiere on HBO and Max. However, a recent report from Variety suggests that the second installment will now be premiered in June 2024.
The streaming and gaming chief of Warner Bros. Discovery, J.B. Perrette, was recently present for an interview at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference on Monday. During the interview, Perrette confirmed the launch month for the second season of House of the Dragon as June 2024.
Although the executive refrained from specifying any particular date for the release of the ‘Game of Thrones‘ spin-off, he at least spilled some beans about the upcoming project. Besides, HBO chief Casey Bloys had also teased an “early summer” release date back in November 2023.
Similarly, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav stated “next quarter” during the company’s recent Q4 earnings call held on February 23, 2024.
House of the Dragon Season 2
House of the Dragon revolves around the Targaryen dynasty in the mythical continent of Westeros. It is believed to take place around 200 years before Game of Thrones and around a century after the Targaryens merged the Seven Kingdoms.
House of the Dragon Season 2 may include a returning cast in the form of Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham.
In addition to these, it may also have newcomers like Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong joining the cast, if reports are to be believed
The filming of House of the Dragon Season 2 began at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios on April 11, 2023. Interestingly, the shoots were unaffected by the Writers Guild of America strike last year as well as the SAG-AFTRA strike. This is because scripts were finalized before filming or the strikes began.
