“It sounds like juicy territory for an actor”: Daniel Dae Kim Has a Selfish Reason for Netflix to Renew Avatar: The Last Airbender for Season 2 That Makes Total Sense

Avatar: The Last Airbender over the decades has stood the test of time and remains one of the most beloved cartoons ever. Thus, when Netflix proposed a live-action version of it, people were excited but not without skepticism. With the release of the first season in February, the show has received fairly decent reviews from viewers. And now, the Fire Lord Ozai actor in the series, Daniel Dae Kim, has revealed why the show must be brought back for a second season, and the fans couldn’t agree more.

Why does Daniel Dae Kim So Desperately Want a Second Season For Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Daniel Dae Kim is eager to bring back Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, but he admits to one selfish reason. Fans of the cartoon know what a formidable character Fire Lord Ozai was and how his complexity evolved as the story progressed. By the time the story reached Book Three, fans had witnessed the truly deranged king facing off against Aang. For Daniel Dae Kim, this is undoubtedly the most enticing aspect to translate onto the screen.

However, playing Ozai isn’t a walk in the park from the get-go. He’s easily one of the most intricately written and complex characters on the show. Although there’s no shortage of such characters, from everybody’s favorite Zuko to Iroh to Azula, Fire Lord Ozai easily stands out as one of the scariest.

Thus, having the opportunity to portray and bring his gradual descent into madness to the screen is what Kim truly anticipates in the second season. In an interview with GQ, the actor revealed,

“A descent into madness sounds like juicy territory for an actor, and it’s not something I’ve explored before on screen. Should we be lucky enough to get a season 2, I look forward to those conversations. Nothing is inevitable in this business and in this industry climate, but there seems to be a lot of excitement about it.”

While it would certainly be intriguing to witness the madness unfold in live-action, Kim is fully committed to pursuing the idea of a second season solely to seize the opportunity of bringing that aspect to life on screen. He eagerly anticipates the chance to do so with great enthusiasm, as fans look forward.

What Can Fans Expect in the Second Season of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Netflix has officially greenlit Avatar: The Last Airbender for not just one, but two more seasons! Since its debut just a mere two weeks ago, the show has soared to the top spot as the most-watched English-language TV series, racking up an impressive 41.1 million views in just the first 11 days. What’s more, it’s captured the hearts of viewers worldwide, ranking as the No. 1 show in 76 countries and landing in the Top 10 in 92.

Fans can certainly anticipate more of Fire Lord Ozai’s madness in the next season, but what else lies in store? With its visually stunning presentation, it can be expected that the show will introduce new elements while remaining true to the familiar storyline in its true Season One fashion. As for the second season, it can be speculated that as Aang hones his water-bending skills with Katara, his quest for earth-bending and fire-bending mentors will intensify.

Meanwhile, the Fire Nation, under Ozai’s command, will tighten its grip on the Earth Kingdom, with Azula seizing control of Omashu. Amidst this chaos, Zuko  yearning for redemption, will find a new path. These plot points might be setting the stage for Season 2’s journeys.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season One is now streaming on Netflix.
