Netflix’s One Piece series was one of the rare anime adaptations that was welcomed by fans. The original manga series by Eiichiro Oda was already a sensation among fans and Netflix took on a bold risk to present an episodic live-action adaptation of the series. The series stayed at the top of the Netflix charts upon release and became a huge success.

A second season is in development and fans are looking forward to more adventures with Monkey D. Luffy, and his team in search of the One Piece. Jacob Romero, who plays Usopp in the series recently answered some fan questions about season 2. Romero jokingly made some bold claims about his character and the ultimate question of what One Piece is.

After the huge success of One Piece season 1 led by Iñaki Godoy, fans are excited to go for more adventure with the Straw Hat Pirates in the already-announced season 2. The driving force of the series has been the quest for the great treasure that exists on the Grand Line known only as the One Piece. However, no one knows about the contents of the treasure and the true value that it has.

The question of whether One Piece was even real was posed to one of the series’ co-stars Jacob Romero, who plays the Usopp in the show, a character known for being a very good liar and fooling others. The question was asked coincidentally on April Fool’s Day (Usopp’s birthday) and thus knowing that, Romero channeled his character while giving a hilarious reply.

He stated that he has seen what the One Piece actually is and the whole crew now calls him King Usopp after he became the owner of the One Piece in season 2. He said (via YouTube),

“I’ve seen it. They actually call me King Usopp now”

Eiichiro Oda has already spoken about how the One Piece is not some metaphorical treasure and is something that is a legitimate physical reward that someone will be able to possess (via The One Piece podcast). Although Romero is joking around with his answer, the show will ultimately show the team finding the One Piece (whatever it turns out to be).

One Piece season 2 will start filming sometime this year
The second season of Netflix’s One Piece has already been greenlit and while no information about its plot is known as of now, the hype for season 2 is pretty high. The cinematographer of the show Nicole Hirsch Whitaker revealed that the writing duties of season 2 were affected by the dial strikes that happened last year.

Hirsch Whitaker compared making the show to the Harry Potter franchise with regards to how they have to start production fast and finish the whole story before the actors become too old to look the part. She told The Direct,

“Well, they definitely started writing and then the strike happened. [For] Season 2, there’s just, there’s so much material to be made based on the show. It’s gonna be like ‘Harry Potter’ though, they’re gonna have to do it fast before everybody gets too old.”

Shooting has not started for the second season but Sanji actor Taz Skylar recently told Digital Spy that they will start production in the coming months. It might not be a stretch to expect season 2 of One Piece by the end of 2025.
