House of the Dragon Star Emma D’Arcy Talked About Their Golden Globe Nomination

Talking about their nomination at the Golden Globe Awards, Emma D’Arcy branded it as “beautifully ironic.” The House of the Dragon star identifies as a non-binary and goes by they/them pronouns. After getting nominated for Best Television Actress in a Drama Series, they shared their thoughts with E! News on the red carpet of the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
They shared,
“It’s kind of a surreal thing because when I was starting out, I really felt that I had to pretend, to present as a woman in order to find success in this industry.”
While their starting journey was not something that truly presented their identity, the Truth Seekers star got great results after stopping their old approach.
“Anyway, it wasn’t sustainable, and I stopped pretending, and weirdly, it’s at that point that I got nominated for best actress at the Golden Globes, which is beautifully ironic.”
Their achievement is truly important as they continued,
“I think the most important thing is that it implies that the space for trans people and gender-nonconforming people is getting bigger all the time. So, I feel very privileged.”
The actor was unable to take home the award as Zendaya got the lead for her role as Rue Bennett in HBO’s Euphoria. However, their performance received wider acclaim with the star commenting about their role in last year’s interview.
Emma D’Arcy’s Take on Their Rhaenyra Targaryen Role

Talking about their character in The Hollywood Reporter‘s interview, they shared how they bonded with the character on a human level.
Dived into their character’s journey stating,
“Rhaenyra has an ongoing battle with what it means to be a woman and is a fundamental outsider. She’s terrified of getting locked into motherhood and is aware of how her position would be different if she were male.”
They added,
“I’m a nonbinary person. I’ve always found myself both pulled and repelled by masculine and feminine identity and I think that plays out truthfully here. She can’t attend court in a way that comes easily to other people.”
