Emily Rudd and Iñaki Godoy are real-life Nami and Luffy on and off-screen!
It has been almost a year since Netflix dropped the One Piece live-action series and the world is indeed waiting for more. With Emily Rudd portraying the role of Nami alongside Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, fans often praised their brother-sister dynamic.
In an interview, Emily Rudd talked about how she spent time with the cast members to prepare for her role. The actress further revealed some memories with Godoy that totally felt like a real-life Nami talking about Monkey D. Luffy!
Emily Rudd Became the Real-Life Nami For Iñaki Godoy’s Luffy!
Back when the series had not aired yet, Emily Rudd talked about her on-screen character of Nami. In an interview with Decider, Rudd talked about her experience while shooting the Netflix series. Stating that she had a lot of fun, the actress stated that she read the manga to prepare for her role!
When the interviewer asked her about the tight-knit bond that he saw among the cast members, Emily Rudd revealed that they spent quite a lot of time together. Talking about Iñaki Godoy, the lead actor who portrays the role of Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd revealed that she was protective of Godoy which is simply giving the real-life Nami and Luffy vibes!
“We all kind of spent time with each other equally, but I spent a lot of time with Iñaki [Godoy] and we definitely developed this older-sister-younger-brother dynamic. He’s 19 and I am not, so I felt a little protective of him. But, also he’s so energetic, so playful — it’s infectious. We created silly little bits that we just milked to death.”
Being an awesome actress, Emily Rudd has also done all the stunts in One Piece by herself and that’s something to be proud of. In a separate video, the actress talked about the need for her to perform her own stunts and why she was “all in”!

It was 6 months ago when Netflix released a video on YouTube titled One Piece | Behind the Stunts. The video showcased the cast members talking about stunts and even taking part in them with straps, harnesses, and all the hassle. Well, Emily Rudd was seen in the video talking about how the fight sequences were the most fun to do so she decided to go all the way in!
“Nami is a pro at the bo staff, and that’s something you see in the manga, and we wanted to bring more into the live-action series, and god, the fight sequences are so fun to do. So, I’m kind of like ‘Throw them all in, I’ll do them all.”
Receiving a rating of 8.3/10 and a whopping 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix’s One Piece is one of the few anime to live-action adaptations that actually succeeded. The series has been renewed for a second season but a solid release date hasn’t been revealed yet. One Piece is available to stream on Netflix around the world.
