Milly Alcock has officially been cast as the new Supergirl in James Gunn’s DCU.
Milly Alcock will be taking flight in the DCU as the new Supergirl.
Per Deadline, it’s been revealed that House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl in the DCU. The reported plan is for Alcock to first appear as Supergirl in a separate DCU project, possibly Superman: Legacy, before going on to lead her own solo movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Alcock’s casting follows previous reports that she was one of the finalists for the role alongside Meg Donnelly, who has been voicing Supergirl in animated DC projects like Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
An Australian native, Milly Alcock is best known for her role as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of the Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon. While she garnered great acclaim for her performance, Alcock has since left the series, as a time jump in the story resulted in Emma D’Arcy taking over the part. Alcock has also starred in the Australian series Upright with roles in other shows like Fighting Season, The Gloaming, and Reckoning. She has only appeared in one feature film with a starring role in the psychological thriller The School.
Milly Alcock Suits Up as Supergirl
Alcock’s solo film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is still in early development without a set release date. All that’s known at this point is that it will be written by Ana Nogueira, and that it will be inspired by the comic book story of the same name by Tom King and illustrator Bilquis Evely. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn teased when the film was announced what the movie would entail.
“In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing,” Gunn said of the DCU’s Woman of Tomorrow.
