House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Month Revealed

House of the Dragon season 2’s release month has been revealed, confirming when the Game of Thrones spinoff will be coming back to HBO.

The release month for House of the Dragon season 2 has been revealed, confirming the time frame for when the series will return. Season 2 will continue where season 1 left off, picking up as Rhaeyra Targaryen decides to engage in war with Alicent Hightower. It was previously revealed the Game of Thrones spinoff would be coming back in the summer, however a release date had not been confirmed.

Now, Variety reports that House of the Dragon season 2 will be coming to HBO in June of this year. This means the show will return less than two years after season 1 started on August 21, 2022. While there is no specific date yet for when the show will return, its early summer release date means a summer filled with dragons and war.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Will Be Much Bigger Than Season 1

Emma D'arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith as Daemon in House of the Dragon

While season 1 of the fantasy series consisted of 10 episodes, season 2 will only be sporting eight. However, the show will be following the start of the Dance of the Dragons, a Targaryen civil war that ultimately leads to dragons disappearing from Westeros for over 100 years. Despite a shortened season, the focus appears to be on the building war, including major confrontations between the Blacks and the Greens.

House of the Dragon season 1 ended with Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys Velaryon, being killed by Aemond Targaryen’s dragon Vhagar in a freak accident. However, the act is viewed as intentional by her side of the conflict, seemingly prompting her into starting a civil war. Season 2 is set to explore the wider implications of the war on Westeros, while also continuing to show how it impacts its major characters on both sides.

The series will also be introducing new and important characters like Cregan Stark, a character whose presence was initially hinted at in season 1. Because of this, a wider scale will be shown throughout the series, reflective of how the Targaryen war will impact the entire world. With House of the Dragon only a few months away, it won’t be long until the civil war finally begins in earnest.
