Ewan McGregor’s newest TV show, A Gentleman in Moscow, continues the actor’s impressive run of highly-rated shows on Rotten Tomatoes. Adapted by writer and showrunner Ben Vanstone, the series is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Amor Towles. The Paramount+ show follows McGregor’s Count Alexander Rostov as he is stripped of his titles in the wake of the Russian Revolution and placed under house arrest in the attic of a hotel. McGregor, who replaced original lead actor Kenneth Branagh, became attached to the project in 2022 and also serves as executive producer.

With the show featuring a diverse cast of Leah Harvey, Johnny Harris, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, it has received critical acclaim. According to Rotten TomatoesA Gentleman in Moscow is currently certified “Fresh” with a rating of 90% from 21 critical reviews. This extends McGregor’s streak of “Fresh” TV shows, dating back to Fargo in 2017. Indeed, it is now the fifth show starring the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor to score a “Fresh” rating.

Will A Gentleman in Moscow Be A Hit & Lead To More TV Projects For McGregor?

McGregor Currently Has One TV Show In Development.

Though it’s unlikely that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 will happen, McGregor refused to close the door on a return to the character, or the franchise as a whole.

By the time A Gentleman in Moscow‘s finale releases on May 17, it could become another bonafide hit for the Scottish actor, who seems to have transitioned from film to TV very comfortably. More familiar with roles on the big screen, McGregor’s TV projects have been diverse and pretty successful up to this point. The actor has a Prime Video TV show in pre-production, called Lodi. It’s based on a true story from an article written by Andrew Dubbins. While also serving as the executive producer, McGregor will play a car salesman Lou, who becomes an FBI informant infiltrating the mafia.

While McGregor doesn’t have additional shows in the works, there are still some speculations about his involvement with the Star Wars universe. In particular, the actor reprised his role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ titular series that premiered in 2022. Given the Moulin Rouge star’s popularity in the franchise, there have been continued calls to see him return to his iconic role. Though it’s unlikely that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 will happen, McGregor refused to close the door on a return to the character, or the franchise as a whole.

While the critical acclaim of A Gentleman in Moscow has cemented McGregor’s excellent TV record, the actor is still a prominent presence in the world of cinema and is currently filming David Robert Mitchell’s movie Flowervale Street. The Everest is also in production, while The Cow is in pre-production. So, while McGregor is preoccupied with movie projects, it may not be long before the Golden Globe-winning actor makes another mark on the silver screen.
