Bridgerton star Claudia Jessie has teased Eloise’s “internal battle” after her fallout with Penelope, revealing how this will impact season 3 of the show. Season 2’s mysterious Lady Whistledown was revealed to be Penelope, something that caused problems for Eloise after she was originally accused of being the mysterious writer. This caused their friendship to break apart, despite Penelope’s attempts to keep it intact.

Speaking with Shondaland, Jessie revealed how Eloise’s feelings about breaking off her friendship with Penelope will inform her story in Bridgerton season 3. The actor teased an “internal battle” as she goes through different changes, figuring out what she wants for her own future. Check out what Jessie had to say below:

I think we see her sort of stiffen slightly. [But] I actually feel like the best thing for Eloise is to find out who she is and be more comfortable with who she is. Because I think everyone’s reaction to Eloise is like a lovable eye roll, [but now] she’s trying this other way. And I don’t know if that’s necessarily going to work for her full-time either — I don’t know if it’s sustainable for someone with her character. So, I think we’ll see her internal battle. But I can only imagine it would be a good thing because she’s 19, and that’s a great age to figure out what you want for your future.

Will Eloise & Penelope Ever Repair Their Friendship?

Bridgerton season 2 ended with Penelope deciding to continue writing as Lady Whistledown, throwing herself into the persona that cost her closest friendship. Due to her friends’ meddling, Eloise ended another friendship with Theo, something she may try hard to repair in season 3. However, when it comes to the pair making amends between each other, it seems there is still a long road for them to travel if it ever happens.

Season 3 promises to focus on Penelope’s relationship with Colin Bridgerton, Eloise’s brother and the third son of their family. Because of how much the duo are likely to be together, this will no doubt drive a further wedge between the former friends. It’s possible that, should the secretive writer form a long-term relationship with Colin, her secret could be publicly revealed, causing disaster for her life.

While Colin and Penelope’s romance being such an important part of season 3, Eloise’s new path ahead is still a mystery. She could reveal who Lady Whistledown is, or she could forge ahead by building a life for herself not beholden to what her former friend is doing in secret. With plenty of moving parts in Bridgerton‘s next season, it remains to be seen if friendships can be repaired, or if they’re gone for good.
