Bridgerton Season 3 Must Explain Why 1 Queen Charlotte Romance Didn’t Last

With Bridgerton season 3 set to premiere in 2024, there is one romantic plotline from Queen Charlotte that the new season must reveal more about.

Although Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is technically a prequel to the Bridgerton series, there is still a chance that one beloved Queen Charlotte romance can get some answers in the newest franchise installmentBridgerton season 3. Bridgerton is a historical romance series based on novels by Julia Quinn. Each season follows one of the eight siblings in the Bridgerton family tree as they find love in Regency Era London. Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a prequel following Queen Charlotte and her rocky romance with King George III. Bridgerton season 3 is set to premiere in May and June of 2024.

Despite the fact that Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton take place decades apart, there are still plenty of threads that connect the two stories. For example, Queen Charlotte is not just the protagonist of her own series, but plays the part of the rigid and eccentric queen in Bridgerton. Other shared characters include Lady Danbury, Violet Bridgerton, and Brimsley. So, although Queen Charlotte is no longer on-screen, that does not mean that its stories cannot continue many years later in Bridgerton, especially if these stories did not get strong endings, such as Brimsley and his lover in Queen Charlotte.

Bridgerton Season 3 Should Reveal What Happened Between Brimsley & Reynolds

Though Queen Charlotte is over, there are six more seasons of Bridgerton to go, which leaves an abundant amount of time for the franchise to clear up what exactly happened between Brimsley and Reynolds. In both Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton, Brimsley is Charlotte’s attendant who does her bidding, and also, keeps her secrets. Queen Charlotte sees Brimsley get an elevated role though, as he and King George’s attendant, Reynolds, start a love affair due to their proximity to each other. Although Charlotte and George are the heart of the series, Brimsley and Reynolds’ forbidden romance is definitely a highlight, and its lack of a solid ending is frustrating.

At the end of Queen Charlotte, Brimsley and Reynolds are seen dancing together, but the scene soon fades out to show Brimsley dancing by himself. This, plus Reynolds’ lack of a role in Bridgerton, insinuates that the two had to separate and have not seen each other since. This theory is further confirmed by Brimsley’s actor Hugh Sachs, who revealed to Vulture that there was a deleted scene in which Brimsley met an older Reynolds and the two would reminiscence on their time together. However, this scene never actually happened, which leaves their romance open-ended.

Brimsley is played by Hugh Sachs in Bridgerton , but was portrayed by Sam Clemmett in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Reynolds was played by Freddie Dennis.

Queen Charlotte Opens The Door To Explore Brimsley’s Character In More Depth

In general, the creation of Queen Charlotte opens the door for the exploration of many characters, including Brimsley. Though most audiences only knew him as Charlotte’s attendant in Bridgerton, his role grew exponentially in Queen Charlotte. He was no longer just a servant, but a character with an inner life and the ability for romance. This is especially complicated by the fact that Brimsley and Reynolds could never truly be together in public society. In this way, Queen Charlotte laid the foundation for a more interesting character and Bridgerton can continue to carry the mantel in season 3.

Now that Queen Charlotte has provided background for Brimsley, Bridgerton season 3 can continue developing this story, or at the very least, hark back to it at times. If Bridgerton does not offer any story relating to Brimsley, then it will not just be disappointing. In many ways, it will be a waste of the story that Queen Charlotte created. In this way, it is Bridgerton’s responsibility to carry on at least a sliver of Brimsley’s story in order to keep its world and characters dyanmics and interesting. The best way to do this is by bringing back Reynolds.
