Benedict’s Bridgerton season 3 story will excite viewers, according to Luke Newton, who teases that it may go in a different direction than expected.
Benedict’s storyline in Bridgerton season 3 will excite viewers, according to Colin actor Luke Newton. The Netflix series explores the British Regency through the Bridgertons and other families of noble status. Along with Newton, the cast of Bridgerton includes Adjoa Andoh, Jonathan Bailey, Phoebe Dynevor, Simone Ashley, Luke Thompson, Julie Andrews, and more. Many expected Benedict (Thompson) to be at the center of Bridgerton season 3, but it was previously confirmed that focus would shift to his younger brother Colin instead.
During an interview with Shondaland, Newton discussed working alongside Thompson, though he revealed they are not together much. He then shared that Benedict’s story in Bridgerton season 3 will excite audiences, without giving any details away. Read Newton’s quote below:
” I feel like I’ve spent nowhere near as much time with Luke Thompson [as I’d like]. Which I’m really sad about because I have so much fun when we are together. But just because of the way our storylines have gone, we haven’t shot anything together [in a while]. But Benedict’s storyline this year is one that fans are going to be really interested in. I know that they love his story already, so it’s exciting to see that kind of go off in a different direction. “
What Benedict’s Arc Could Look Like In Bridgerton Season 3
The first two seasons of Bridgerton followed Julia Quinn’s novels in order, but the upcoming installment will jump ahead to portray Colin and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) romance. An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book in the series, focused on the budding relationship and eventual marriage of Benedict and Sophie Beckett. It was expected that Bridgerton season 3 would adapt that storyline, which has led to uncertainty about Benedict’s role moving forward, but Newton’s comments suggest it was well-thought-out.
By skipping Benedict’s story, Bridgerton could find Thompson’s character grappling with future endeavors since, after learning about Anthony’s (Bailey) donation to the Royal Academy, he chose to give up painting. It will be interesting to see how Benedict evolves, especially given his apparent detachment from the ton, and if he explores life outside of high society at all. Assuming that Bridgerton season 4 focuses more on Benedict, the next stretch of episodes could help explain why he connects with Sophie too, who comes from a different social class.
The decision to follow Colin and Penelope in Bridgerton season 3 makes sense, allowing the show to deal with the season 2 finale’s Lady Whistledown revelation, something Eloise (Claudia Jessie) hasn’t spoken about yet. Benedict can also grow as a person before diving into a romantic relationship, and with Newton’s comments in mind, his arc will still be entertaining.
